Responsibilities

Summary:

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties:

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Functions

  1. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  2. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  3. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  4. Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer and Maintenance Tool Maker, to diagnose malfunction.
  5. Replaces faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
  6. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  7. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  8. Pushes buttons and presses keys on robot controller, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.
  9. Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  10. Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  11. Inspects electrical systems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • Minimum of four years of related experience in electrical.

Preferred education and experience

  • Minimum of two years (AA) or Skilled Trades certificate preferred; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journeyman level or higher competency preferred.  Certified in application of ARC FLASH controls.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. 

The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. 

The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. 

The employee moves objects. 

  • regularly up to 10 pounds 
  • frequently up to 25 pounds 
  • occasionally up to 50 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. 

 

Work Environment: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
